Testing

Food Intolerance Testing

Do you struggle with digestive complaints or skin issues or some more unexplained symptom that you can’t figure out where it stems from?  You may suffer with food intolerances, or there may be something else going on with your digestive system.

Sometimes, testing is the shortcut route to find out what’s really going on.

Common symptoms of food intolerance are:

  • Stomach cramps
  • Bloating
  • Nausea
  • Excess gas / flatulence
  • Headaches
  • Low mood
  • Hives / eczema
Food intolerances are delayed immune reactions. This means that the symptoms you are experiencing may or may not be related to your latest meal. It could be from something you had the day before or something you eat a lot of, often.

Sometimes general poor digestive function is an underlying cause of multiple food intolerances. If you feel that what you are eating may contribute to the symptoms you are currently experiencing then a simple test can take some of the guess work out of the equation.

The Food Intolerance Test check for 52 of them most common foods eaten on a daily basis. These include:

  • Wheat
  • Cow’s milk
  • Gluten
  • Soy
  • Whole egg
  • Shell fish
  • Beef
  • Pork
  • Chicken
  • Tomatoes
  • Citrus fruit
  • Rice
  • And more

What to expect at your Food Intolerance Test appointment

The test is done by a using a few drops of blood taken from your finger and developed on a tray, using the ELISA method. This is currently the standard method for checking IgG antibodies in the blood. Developing your food intolerance test takes about 45 min. During this time we will also go through your current signs and symptoms as well as your current diet. The consultation part is of equal importance as putting your test result into the context of your past history, your current lifestyle and your diet will guide and inform the personalised protocol going forward.

Once we have the results a straightforward personalised protocol will be advised. Your protocol will include guidance on how to eliminate your trigger foods from your diet, what foods to replace the trigger foods with, gentle support for your digestive system and some recipes to help you implement any dietary changes necessary.

You will then be sent home to get started with your new recommendations and if appropriate we will do a follow up or just a check in after 6-8 weeks. During any follow up consultation we will address any further questions you have and make any adjustments to your personalised protocol, if necessary.

The longterm goal is always to reduce symptoms as well as ensuring your diet is as varied as possible, despite having to limit or eliminate certain foods.

Cost of food intolerance testing €165 which includes initial consultation + test + one follow up by phone (Please note that this does not include an in person follow up consultation.

Further digestive functional testing available

If you suffer from ongoing digestive problems which find seem hard to resolve or even more complex things like an autoimmune condition, I can also offer you stool testing.

This process looks a little different to the Food Intolerance Testing.

An initial consultation is done to gather information about your current and past history of symptoms and what you eat. You will then be sent home with a test kit to collect the sample in the comfort of your own home. Once the sample is collected it will be couriered to the lab, either in Germany or the UK.

Once I receive your laboratory test result we will schedule a follow up consultation where I will go through any findings with you, as well as the best course of action to proceed forward with your personalised protocol.

If you have had ongoing digestive issues for years and are still looking for answers, a comprehensive stool analysis can often give a broad picture of what’s actually going on and help you find the answers so healing can take place.

This type of testing can check for any or all of the following, as appropriate

  • Candida
  • Leaky gut
  • Intestinal colonisation
  • Intestinal inflammation
  • Parasites
  • Pathogenic bacteria

If you are interested in food intolerance testing or further functional digestive testing then contact me.

Cost of functional digestive testing €140 which includes initial consultation + 1 follow up. (Please note that this does not include the cost of the testing itself. The cost of testing will depend on what is being checked for.)
